Italy Detains 17 on Terror Charges

Italian police said Thursday 17 people had been arrested in various European countries as part of a joint operation against suspected members of a terrorist group.

 

A statement gave no details about the operation code named "JWEB", saying they would be disclosed at a news conference later Thursday.

 

The statement said they were suspected of "international terrorism."

 

A spokesman declined to say how many arrests were made in Italy but added that none of the arrested were Italians.
