Hania (an alias) had always thought of 'Hajj Fouad' as a kind, loving old man who has grown into the generous habit of buying her coffee everyday on their way from Choueifat to her college.
None of the area's residents would have guessed the crooked nature he kept locked within had it not been for Hania's inconvenient incident.
At 11 pm last Tuesday night, Hajj Fouad was driving Hania back to her place, and as is customary, he pulled over on the Hadi Nasrallah Highway in the Southern Suburbs, and offered her a cup of coffee.
A few sips into her cup and she started to feel light-headed. The slight dizziness soon became unbearable; she feared she might pass out at any second.
The 20-year-old suspected the coffee was behind her sudden discomfort. Doubts of the driver having slipped a drug into her cup were racing into her head. What if he wants to kidnap me or rape me?
She mustered all her strength and asked him to stop at the closest shop so she can buy water.
Calmly, she stepped out of the car and rushed to the store owner, telling him exactly what had just happened to her before fainting at last.
Passers-by swarmed from all directions. Once the security forces learned about the details of the incident, Hajj was immediately arrested.
According to MTV’s findings, investigations confirmed that the coffee did indeed contain a substance of some sort.
This story is an eye-opener to young men and women who rely on private cabs for their daily commutes. You must always remain vigilant and keep an eye out for any irregularities.
