Forget love: apparently viagra is in the air in this coastal village.

You might assume Ringakiddy in County Cork is a typically tranquil rural Irish community.

But residents claim that fumes from Pfizer's nearby Viagra factory are arousing male inhabitants.

No wonder that the news that Viagra will soon be made available over the counter in Britain was met with a shrug by locals.

Sadie O'Grady, a resident, told The Sunday Times:

"We’ve been getting the love fumes for years now for free."

Her daughter, barmaid Debbie O'Grady, added:

"One whiff and you’re stiff."

Apparently, the 'love fumes' are even affecting the local dogs in the neighbourhood.

Psychiatric nurse Fiona Toomey, who returned to the village after five years in America, told the paper:

"Even the dogs here have been known to walk around in a state of sexual excitement.

I think that Viagra must have got into the water supply.

I’m convinced that’s what happened at the very beginning before they were so closely regulated."

Some residents told the paper that the village had even experienced a baby boom after the factory began producing Viagra in 1998.

A Pfizer spokeswoman said in a statement to The Sunday Times that "Viagra in the air" is just an "amusing" myth. She added:

O"ur manufacturing processes have always been highly sophisticated as well as highly regulated."
