Aoun to Higher Judicial Council appointees: Judges' role is fundamental in eradicating corruption

President Michel Aoun underlined, on Monday, the fundamental role of judges in stamping out corruption, urging them to support the state's upcoming fight against corruption.

"Your oath is an extension to mine to preserve the law," President Aoun said in an address to the Higher Judicial Council delegation who called on the President this morning at the Baabda palace.

The visiting delegation comprised the seven newly appointed judges at the Supreme Judicial Council, who were sworn in before the President, in the presence of Justice Minister, Salim Jreissati, and the Council's senior referee members.

"Be an example to follow in your performance and conduct," Aoun corroborated.

The seven newly appointed judges are namely: Judge Claude Karam, Judge Rox Rizk, Judge Helena Iskandar, Judge Munzer Zebian, Judge Maher Shaito, Judge Eliane Saber and Judge Suhair al-Harakeh.

On the other hand, Aoun met with former Minister, Ramzi Jreij, with whom he held a tour d'horizon bearing on the current situation.

Aoun then met with the new Director General of the Arab Women Organization for the years 2018-2022, Dr. Fadia Kiwan, in the presence of the President of the National Commission for Lebanese Women, Claudine Aoun Roukoz.

Dr Kiwan briefed the President on her work program at the Organization after her election a few days ago, thanking him "for the support provided by the Lebanese state to reap such a victory."

Aoun also met with the "International Beiteddine Festivals" Committee, led by Noura Jumblatt, who briefed him on the Committee's activities and Beiteddine summer festivities.

The President also met with the new Director General of Administration at the Defesne Ministry, Brig. Gen. Malek Chamas, on the occasion of his appointment in his new position.
