Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rahi urged Sunday the United Nations and the Security Council to overturn the Knesset's decision to Judaize the entire occupied Palestine and deprive the Palestinians in the Diaspora from their right to return to their land.
"I appeal to the United Nations and the Security Council to adopt a resolution that would nullify the disgraceful and oppressive Knesset decision on democracy, globalization and the coexistence of nations, and to reaffirm previous relevant international resolutions," Patriarch Rahi said during a Mass service in Faraya this morning.
"This decision is rejected because it excludes the Christian and Islamic religions, leaving out our Christian people with all their Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant Churches and eliminating the Palestinian cause and the peace process," Rahi added.
At the national level, the Patriarch called on the politicians in Lebanon to rise above their personal interests for the country's sake.
"Isn't it strange that the government formation is limited to the distribution of ministerial portfolios and personal gains?," the Patriarch regretfully questioned, highlighting the pressing need to form the new cabinet the soonest possible to cater to citizens' issues.
Finally, Rahi held politicians responsible for the current deteriorating situation at the economic, social, demographic and educational levels in Lebanon.
