MP Ziad Hawat held this Thursday a press conference at the Parliament which mainly dealt with the situation at the Rafic Hariri International Airport.
"Beirut airport is going through a very miserable stage due to the intensity of arrivals and departures. This miserable condition is due to negligence during the last period and lack of study for the next stage," he said, stressing that the airport needs modernization, development and expansion so as to keep up with the heavy air traffic.
"This issue is neither marginal nor secondary. It is key for pushing the economy forward and stimulating economic growth in the country," he urged.
Tackling the government formation process, Hawat said "there is an urgent need to accelerate the formation of a government because the Lebanese people are suffering from a very deteriorating economic state, (...) next to the tragedy of traffic jam, the lack of infrastructure, the waste crisis, through to the most important issue which is the Beirut airport, one of the most vital tourist basics in the country."
