Khalil welcomes UN’s Kubis, Iranian ambassador

Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil received UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jan Kubis, and discussed with him the general situation on Wednesday.

At the beginning of the meeting, Kubis said "The minister clearly expressed his determination to make all efforts, in consultation with all the political forces and the Parliament, to have the new budget approved by the government. This is a fundamental issue, as the budget is the basis of legislation in any country and the basis for cooperation between political forces, the House of Representatives and the government."

"We have discussed how the international community can help the government implement all its objectives, including reforms and financial management," he said.

"We have also talked about the support provided by the United Nations and the cooperation of the international community, especially the international financial institutions. (...) This was our first meeting and I hope we will start effective consultations and fruitful cooperation," Kubis added.

Khalil also received the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Fairouznia and discussed with him bilateral relations.
