Aoun in Bkirki: We Found Ourselves Forced to Accept the Bad Option
Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun called for holding a plenary parliament session in which all electoral proposals would be put to the vote, deeming 'this is the only solution we have'.

But he added that "we can rescue the situation by voting on the electoral laws, as we're not obliged to accept the 1960 law, extension or vacuum."

"Today, we find ourselves before three options that range from being bad to disastrous. The 1960 law is a bad option, the extension of the Parliament's term is worse and political vacuum is disastrous", Aoun said following talks with Maronite Patriarch Bechara Boutros Al Rahi in Bkirki.

"Given the status quo, we found ourselves forced to accept the bad option and, therefore, submitted our candidacy requests based on the 1960 law", he added.

Slamming those voicing stances against submitting candidacy requests based on the 1960 electoral law, Aoun said: "Those launching theories do not have a solution, although they're claiming to be against the 1960 law."

The FPM chief also noted that there is a possibility of challenging the legality of the elections.
