The Lebanese Army 68th anniversary failed to pass unnoticed as two rockets landed in the Baabda area on Thursday evening.
According to a communiqué issued Friday by the Lebanese Army Command, explosion sounds were heard shortly before Thursday midnight in al-Yarzeh region.
"As the Lebanese Army forces rushed to carry out combing operations, it turned out that two 107mm rockets had struck the area, including one that fell in the yard of the Freiha family's villa near the officers' club, while the other landed near al-Khashiqji palace in Tallet al-Yarzeh area", the statement noted.
The communiqué pointed out that only material damage was reported.
The Army Command stressed that combing operations were still underway to determine the location from which the rockets were fired.
Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel avoided accusing any party of launching rockets, saying many factions own similar missiles.
In a radio interview, Charbel noted that "the rockets that were launched on Baabda and al-Yarzeh yesterday were similar to those launched from Ballouneh towards the area of Jamhour and Beirut's southern suburbs."
"We haven't confirmed yet the source of the attacks," he said, hoping the results of investigations would be unveiled on Friday.
