Rifai: Simple-majority presidential election would be regarded as challenge

Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Kamel Rifai ruled out an imminent cabinet formation, accusing foreign meddling and regional pressures exerted by some countries that sponsor the March 14 coalition of obstructing the process.

In a radio interview on Thursday, Rifai didn't favor simple majority vote to be adopted in presidential election, saying that would be regarded by some local parties as a challenge.

The lawmaker noted that both Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun and the Marada Chief MP Sleiman Frangieh enjoy the required characteristics to be eligible candidates for presidency.
