Tripoli’s residents to refuges
Here's Tripoli standstill between cautious calm that reigns during the day to bloody war and rockets' clashes at night. Only sporadic speeches come along with the sounds of grenades and gunshots.
The night of October 24 was unique in the capital of the North, the darkest and the mostly violent since rocket-propelled grenades were used forcing residents to stay in lower floors and refuges.
However, at the time of Friday's prayers, calm reigned in Tripoli except some intermittent gunshots.
President of the Republic Michel Sleiman postponed his official visit to Austria scheduled to begin on Sunday, in order to closely follow up the security situation in Lebanon especially in Tripoli. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Najib Mikati held a series of meetings to discuss the situation in Tripoli and follow up the Army and Security forces' implementation of the field measures agreed upon in yesterday's meeting at Baabda Palace.
He also discussed with Tripoli's Deputies the field conditions and the need to implement security and judicial procedures and lift the political cover off all the saboteurs.
Former Internal Security Forces Chief, General Ashraf Rifi said in a press conference that it was no more acceptable for some militants to destabilize the city, calling upon the state to take the responsibility.
"We support the state's logic and we reject any auto-security", said Rifi, who added, "Tripoli can no longer bear suffers and we can no longer standstill while it is destructed"

"Let PM Najib Mikati and Tripoli's ministers refrain from their posts and stay in the city", he said.

Moreover, MP Mohammad Kabbara held a press conference where he deduced that all security measures taken for Tripoli failed and considered that Security leaders didn't manage to maintain the city's security but he hailed efforts of President of the Republic and cabinet to end bloodshed.
