Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos announced Friday that the process of releasing a general and four other hostages detained by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) has got underway.

“The process has begun and the hostages’ release will make way for peace talks to resume with the rebels,” Santos said.
