The Pentagon: The decision to provide Ukraine with nuclear weapons rests with Trump
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that the decision to provide Ukraine with nuclear weapons or to discuss such a step falls solely under the authority of President Donald Trump.

The Breitbart News website quoted Hegseth as saying: "Nuclear weapons for Kyiv depend on President Donald Trump."

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had stated that he spoke with President Trump about security guarantees and questioned what those guarantees might look like—whether through NATO membership, nuclear weapons, or "some kind of deterrence package."

Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated that discussions about nuclear weapons in Ukraine are aimed at maintaining the morale of Ukrainian forces but are unrealistic.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, General Keith Kellogg, estimated the chances of Ukraine obtaining nuclear weapons as "extremely low or nonexistent."
