Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Wednesday said during his meeting with representatives of the majority of parliamentary blocs: "The majority of the Lebanese people, as well as the parliament, absolutely reject the advance payment, and the government's decision thereon requires the support of all, even if it leads to stumbling."
"The banks which caused us to a loss of 75% of the debt bear the responsibility with the foreign buyers. If they want to restructure without restriction or condition and without paying any amount or a percentage of the amount or interest, then be it. We are in favor of any measure taken by the government, other than paying. Once again we confirm that deposits are sacred."
On a different note, Berri tackled the general situation and the UNIFIL work with the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations in Asia and the Pacific and the Middle East for the Department of Political Affairs and Peace Building and the Department of Peace Operations, Khaled Khayari, in the presence of UNIFIL Commander General Stefano Del Col.
