Economy and Trade Minister Amin Salam asked in a circular the owners of supermarkets, mini-markets and groceries, "Not to receive or sell locally manufactured products, of any kind, unless the factory is registered and licensed at the Ministry of Industry, to preserve consumer health and food safety."
The circular stated: “Pursuant to the implementation of the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law, especially Article 3 of it, related to the consumer’s right to preserve his health and safety when using, in an appropriate manner, the good or service in terms of quality, and within the framework of the Ministry of Economy and Trade’s endeavor to take all effective measures to ensure food security and monitor the food safety system; all supermarket, mini-market and grocery store owners are required not to receive or sell any locally manufactured product, regardless of its type, unless the factory is registered and licensed at the Ministry of Industry."
