Head of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, confirmed "the commitment to forming the government and ensuring the success of the presidency," stating: "We are now fearful of failure in the formation process, and we do not accept any transgressions. The goal is to reach an effective government that implements the oath of office."
He added during a press conference: "The government faces political challenges, the first of which is ending the conflict and implementing the ceasefire agreement, as well as dealing with Syria and the new regime based on equality, the return of refugees, and the types of crimes that have been occurring."
Bassil outlined the government's functions, pointing out that "one of its duties is to settle Lebanon's relations with the Arab and international communities, distancing it from the axis of conflicts, in addition to financial reforms, holding municipal and parliamentary elections."
He continued: "The government must be based on solid political and social representation, meaning it should be supported by stable parliamentary blocs, not by shifting and opportunistic individuals or groups." He clarified that "it is not acceptable to disregard the bitter experience of the last two governments regarding technocrats."
Bassil emphasized: "Being political does not necessarily mean being militia-oriented; it means being committed to a cause and a system. Therefore, it is not an accusation, and we do not accept demonizing partisan struggle, which prevents its adherents from aspiring to leadership."
He pointed out: "This has happened twice and contradicts the Taif Agreement. If there is any rejection of political parties, it should not be limited to naming ministers while accepting the affiliation of MPs when naming the prime minister or granting confidence."
Bassil declared his readiness "to take on political and national responsibility to the extent that we have the ability to influence. We do not wish to bear responsibility for individuals without being able to affect them."
