President of the Republic Joseph Aoun met with MP Simon Abi Ramia, who expressed firm backing for the Cabinet’s recent decision to task the Lebanese Army with developing a plan to ensure that all weapons in the country are placed under state authority.
Following the meeting, Abi Ramia stated: “We reaffirmed our absolute support for the Cabinet’s latest decision mandating the army to draft a plan for monopolizing arms under the authority of the state.”
He emphasized that “the continued Israeli occupation of Lebanese territory and its repeated violations constitute a blatant and ongoing breach of Lebanon’s sovereignty.”
“Sovereignty,” Abi Ramia noted, “means the exclusive possession of weapons by the legitimate state; no one else.” He also voiced strong support for President Aoun’s stance on defending national sovereignty, particularly at this sensitive juncture.
Abi Ramia concluded by calling for the preservation of both sovereignty and civil peace, stressing that “everyone must remain under the umbrella of the state and its institutions.”
