Minister of Education and Higher Education Rima Karami held an open forum with around 40 principals of public schools and high schools, underscoring their pivotal role in preparing for the new school year. She described principals as indispensable partners in ensuring a strong academic start and urged them to give their best to secure student success.
The principals, representing all Lebanese regions, raised pressing concerns: declining numbers of tenured teachers, shortages in specialized subjects, delayed school openings in agricultural areas, and the cumulative impact of financial, social, and psychological crises on students. They also discussed the need to clarify administrative roles, recruit teachers for sports and arts, digitize management systems, and address rent disputes for school buildings.
Karami pledged to expand digitization across schools, strengthen staffing through coordination with constitutional bodies, and work closely with municipalities and civil society to support the sector. She noted the challenges following last year’s Israeli attacks, which left some schools destroyed or in need of repairs.
The Minister’s day included meetings with MPs and local officials on regional education needs, hosting Lebanon’s school badminton team ahead of the Arab championships in Jordan, and chairing a Higher Education Council session focused on reintegrating Lebanese students returning from Syria without full academic documentation.
