President of the Republic Joseph Aoun congratulated the United Nations on its Day which falls on October 24th.
"October 24th is United Nations Day, the day when nations, 80 years ago, pledged to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, to live together in peace and good neighborliness, and to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, and in the equal rights of all nations, large and small. It is as if this charter reflects Lebanon’s message and its struggle for the sovereignty of its state, the independence of its decision-making, and the freedom of its people," President Aoun said.
President Aoun added: "All congratulations to the United Nations on its day, and all best wishes to this great institution in achieving its noble goals. And I pledge to every Lebanese woman and man that truth and goodness will be our companions every day, whatever the changes of time and circumstances."
On this occasion, President Aoun expressed to the UN Secretary-General António Guterres his hope that "the international organization will contribute to strengthening international cooperation and achieving peace, security and justice among peoples."
In a congratulatory message addressed to Guterres, President Aoun said: "While expressing Lebanon's appreciation for the United Nations and for your courageous stances on the issues and conflicts facing the region and the world, I wish you continued good health and success in your benevolent efforts."
