Teams from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport intervened overnight to address water accumulation in the Al-Rihab area after reports of rising water levels on part of the road.

Upon arrival, crews found that the flooding was caused solely by clogged storm drains blocked with improperly discarded waste. The issue was superficial and unrelated to the main drainage system or infrastructure. The teams cleared the debris manually, without the need for high-pressure equipment, and reopened the road in less than 30 minutes, allowing traffic to resume immediately.

The Ministry praised the contractors for their prompt and professional response during the night and reiterated that its field teams remain fully ready 24/7 to respond to any water accumulation across the country during storms.

Officials also emphasized that managing stormwater is a shared responsibility requiring cooperation between the government, municipalities, and residents. While Beirut falls under the municipal authority of the Beirut Municipality, the Ministry remains ready to provide support and calls for enhanced monitoring and coordination to ensure the city’s streets are prepared for upcoming storms.
