Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri welcomed EU Special Representative for Human Rights Kajsa Ollongren, accompanied by EU Ambassador Sandra De Waele, for discussions on the latest developments and ways to strengthen cooperation between Lebanon and the European Union in the field of human rights.
Berri also met with Karolina Lindholm Billing, the newly appointed UNHCR Representative in Lebanon, in a protocol visit marking the start of her mandate. Talks focused on UNHCR’s support programs for those affected by Israeli attacks and on the issue of returning Syrian refugees.
In a farewell visit, Berri welcomed Japan’s Ambassador Magoshi Masayuki, with talks touching on regional developments and Lebanese–Japanese relations.
Earlier, the Speaker discussed Lebanon’s cooperation programs with the World Bank, particularly reconstruction, with Ousmane Dione, the Bank’s Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa, in the presence of regional officials Jean-Christophe Carret, Enrique Blanco Armas, and Berri’s media adviser Ali Hamdan.
