Chuck Schumer says the US president has failed to bring down costs for people in the country, as he promised to do on the 2024 election campaign trail.
The Democratic leader in the US Senate also slammed Trump for launching a trade war with Canada and Mexico.
“I have never seen such an important policy that affects so many people and their costs, come into effect with so little thought and so little analysis. It’s amazing,” Schumer told reporters.
He said industries in every US state would be affected while families will pay hundreds of dollars more each year.
“After the tariffs, everyday goods are going to become more expensive, from the price of gas and cars to cheese and dairy, and everything in between, devastating our farmers, our small businesses, American families,” Schumer said.
