Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán reaffirmed that his country will not approve the European plan to ban the import of Russian energy starting in 2027, warning of the consequences such a move would have on the livelihood of Europeans.

Orbán said, "We must not allow sanctions on the Russian energy sector to be imposed and applied to Hungary." He stressed that this would lead to a sharp increase in public service costs for citizens, with electricity prices potentially doubling and heating costs rising fourfold.

He added that government spending on energy resources would increase by 2 billion euros annually, which is equivalent to the amount the government currently allocates to maintain basic public service prices.
