Former Prime Minister Najib Mikati issued the following statement:

"In response to the media coverage regarding the municipal council of Tripoli and the disputes that led to the resignation of twelve members, I would like to clarify the following:

From the very beginning of preparations for the municipal and local elections, I made it clear that I stand at an equal distance from all candidates. I called for this electoral process to remain within its developmental framework and free from political interference — a point I emphasized to everyone who reached out to me on the matter.

Those who were elected to the municipal council are capable and determined to serve the city and its people. Therefore, I urge them all to rise above the current disputes and work to reconcile their differences. Diversity is essential and provides a much-needed boost to municipal work and development."
