National Defense Minister Michel Menassa received at his Yarzeh office, the UK Defence Senior Advisor to the Middle East and North Africa (DSAME) Vice Admiral Edward Ahlgren, accompanied by British Ambassador to Lebanon, Hamish Cowell, and British Defense Attaché Lieutenant Colonel Charles Smith.
During the meeting, a comprehensive review of the general situation in the region and Lebanon was presented, in light of the latest developments and their potential repercussions on the Lebanese arena.
The meeting also covered the mechanism for implementing UN Resolution 1701 by the Lebanese Army and its deployment in southern Lebanon, in light of the continued Israeli occupation of the five hills.
The discussion also addressed the measures taken by the Lebanese army to control the northern and eastern borders with Syria.
On the other hand, Minister Menassa received Swedish Ambassador to Lebanon Jessica Svärdström with whom he discussed regional developments.
The latest developments in southern Lebanon were discussed, with emphasis on the importance of renewing UNIFIL's mandate next August. The meeting also addressed ongoing coordination with the Syrian state to control the shared border.
The Minister of National Defense later met with MP Yanal Solh, with several topics related to supporting the military institution and strengthening its resilience were discussed.
Major General Menassa also received the Secretary-General of the Orthodox Gathering, former MP Marwan Abu Fadel. Discussions dwelt on the country’s political and social issues and the importance of maintaining stability in light of the current challenges.
