Minister of Interior Ahmad Hajjar affirmed that the parliamentary elections will be held on schedule and will be "a true reflection of the people's will and the renewal of political life in Lebanon."
Touching on the recent municipal and mayoral elections, Hajjar considered that they "proceeded excellently despite all the difficulties and challenges that existed," noting that "preparations took place shortly after the government was formed. However, through determination and effort, the elections were held and proceeded well, even excellently."
He added: "Just as we held the municipal and mayoral elections on schedule, after three consecutive postponements, I see no reason why parliamentary elections cannot be held on time. This is an important milestone for renewing political life. The Ministry of Interior is busy preparing, and the government will follow up. This is a decision taken at the highest levels."
Hajjar also stressed that ISF has developed a security plan to protect tourists and the public in Lebanon, working to ensure a successful summer season.
Speaking in an interview with "Al Aman" magazine, Hajjar addressed a heartfelt message on the occasion of the 164th anniversary of the Internal Security Forces, shedding light on the institution which has been home to him throughout his years of growing up and of which he is proud to be a member, emphasizing that "the security forces are the citizens' guarantee."
Hajjar explained what it would mean to reopen the Roumieh Prison courtroom, offering some solutions to the overcrowded prison, and proposing that its management be returned to the Prisons Authority of the Ministry of Justice, as per the law.
"We need to build new prisons and implement modern management under the supervision of the Ministry of Justice. There is a plan that has not been implemented previously for various reasons, and we hope to implement it soon," Hajjar asserted.
He hailed the efforts of all members of the Internal Security Forces, stressing that he "will spare no effort with the government to ensure that they receive their rights, and that all efforts are aimed at providing the best service and maintaining security across Lebanon."
