This marks the first time the Syrian army has entered the Druze-majority city of Sweida since the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
The army had earlier confirmed that “unlawful groups” were attempting to flee the confrontation by retreating into the city center.
The Ministry added that “the Syrian army is continuing its operations with the aim of restoring stability and security” around the city of Sweida.
