Floods in eastern Pakistan have claimed the lives of more than 170 people, including 85 children, according to the Disaster Management Authority.

Relief organizations have warned of increasing risks to children’s lives, especially due to the heightened chances of drowning and the spread of waterborne diseases.

Authorities have declared a state of emergency in several areas, and the army has been deployed in the city of Rawalpindi to address rising water levels.
