Former Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib passed away on Wednesday evening at the age of 84, after suffering a heart attack. He was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.
Bou Habib was considered one of Lebanon’s most prominent diplomatic figures in recent decades. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs in Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s cabinet from September 2021 until February 2025, when Youssef Rajji took over the post.
He held a PhD in economics and had been a lecturer at Université La Sagesse in Beirut since 2002. His professional journey began at the World Bank in 1976 as an economic expert, later becoming Senior Loan Officer for the Middle East and North Africa region.
From May 1983 to February 1990, Bou Habib served as Lebanon’s ambassador to the United States. He returned to the World Bank in 1992, where he served as advisor to the Vice President for the MENA region and later headed the Regional Communications Unit.
Beyond his diplomatic and economic roles, Bou Habib was also an active writer in various newspapers and media outlets, known for his calm analysis and insightful commentary on both Lebanese and international affairs.
