Following the controversy caused by the remarks of US envoy Tom Barrack to journalists at Baabda Palace after his meeting with President Joseph Aoun, Barrack clarified in an interview that he “used the word ‘animalistic’ but not in a derogatory way.” He added, “I was simply asking: Can we calm down? Can we find some tolerance and kindness? Yes, let’s be civilized.”
