Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri met in Ain el-Tineh with Deputy Speaker Elias Bou Saab with whom he discussed the most recent political developments, legislative matters, and the work of the parliamentary fact-finding committee.

Following the meeting, Bou Saab highlighted the significance of Berri’s speech marking the disappearance of Imam Moussa Sadr, praising the Imam’s vision and national positions, and drawing parallels between Sadr’s legacy and Berri’s leadership.

Bou Saab warned of the “serious threat facing Lebanon,” referencing Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s display of a blue map highlighting alleged territorial ambitions. Bou Saab stressed the need for national unity in the face of external threats and emphasized that the Taif Accord offers a viable path forward.

Moreover, Bou Saab called for its full implementation, including exclusive state control over arms, electoral reform, political secularization, and administrative decentralization. He added that forming the National Commission to Abolish Political Sectarianism, as Berri previously attempted, should now be revisited.

Bou Saab also underlined the importance of internal dialogue between the President, Prime Minister, and political stakeholders to advance these reforms.

He concluded by announcing that the parliamentary investigation committee would begin formal sessions this week to hear from relevant ministers, following procedures agreed upon with Speaker Berri.

Speaker Berri also received former minister Ghazi Aridi. Discussions focused on the political situation in Lebanon and regional developments.
