Salam: Education is a national priority and a guarantee of Lebanon’s future
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam delivered a keynote address at the Strategic Steering Meeting of the Trust Fund for Education (TREF), held this morning at the Grand Serail.

Salam said Lebanon’s children face the toughest challenges in more than five years of consecutive crises that have disrupted their right to education and threatened the nation’s future and stability. “During this difficult period, TREF has stood as a partner to Lebanon, helping keep schools open, supporting teachers, and giving children a chance to hold on to hope,” he stated, expressing gratitude for this support.

Salam stressed that education is primarily the responsibility of the Lebanese state and that his government is committed to safeguarding it. “Strengthening and funding public education, from primary schools to the Lebanese University, is a national priority. There can be no education without empowered teachers, and no mission without schools able to provide essential services,” he affirmed.

Moreover, Salam noted that despite financial hardships, Lebanon has begun mobilizing local resources and advancing institutional reforms to build a modern, transparent Ministry of Education. Reform, he added, must also extend to curricula and teaching methods, by integrating technology, artificial intelligence, and fostering critical thinking and life skills.

Salam thanked Education Minister Karami for her dedication, emphasizing that international solidarity remains essential. “No child in Lebanon should be deprived of the right to learn, regardless of circumstances,” he concluded. “This is not only a moral duty but a condition for Lebanon’s survival as a just and sovereign state.”
