Watch: Gas tanker explosion causes disaster
Three people were killed and 67 others injured in a gas tanker explosion in eastern Mexico, according to Mexico City authorities.

Mayor Clara Brugada said the truck exploded while driving on a bridge in the densely populated Iztapalapa area of eastern Mexico City, causing a massive fire and damaging 18 vehicles.

Miriam Urzúa, Secretary-General for Risk Management and Civil Protection, said many of the injured suffered second- and third-degree burns and were taken to several hospitals in the capital.

Footage broadcast on television and social media showed the moment of the explosion, which appeared enormous and created a huge fireball.

The public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the circumstances of the blast. According to the mayor, the truck was reportedly carrying nearly 50,000 liters of gas when it apparently overturned.
