Public Works Ministry begins cleaning of Chekka Tunnel, announces sustainable lighting plan
The Ministry of Public Works and Transportion has launched cleaning and maintenance works in the 400-meter-long Chekka Tunnel, as part of the “Lebanon on Track” project aimed at rehabilitating roads, bridges, and tunnels across the country.

In a statement released this morning, the ministry said the current works focus on the tunnel’s Tripoli-to-Beirut direction, aiming to improve visibility and safety, ease traffic flow, and reduce risks.

It also announced plans to install solar-powered lighting in both directions of the tunnel, an innovative step toward safer, more sustainable, and eco-friendly roads.
