Watch: Syrian Flag Raised in Washington After 11 Years
After nearly 11 years of closure, the Syrian flag was raised on the Syrian embassy building in the US capital, Washington.

The flag-raising took place during the visit of Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, the first of its kind by a Syrian foreign minister to the United States in a quarter of a century.

Al-Shaibani is discussing with US officials the lifting of remaining sanctions on Syria and the proposed security agreement with Israel.

CBS reported that arrangements are underway for a meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Syrian counterpart Ahmad Al-Sharaa during the United Nations General Assembly meetings in a few days.

Al-Sharaa is participating in the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, which will be held from September 22 to 30, according to a Syrian Foreign Ministry official.

Al-Sharaa will be the first Syrian president to speak at the United Nations since former President Nureddin al-Atassi in 1967, and the first Syrian president ever to participate in the high-level week of the General Assembly.
