Interior and Municipalities Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar chaired a meeting of the North Lebanon Regional Security Council at the Independence Hall in Tripoli’s Serail, attended by Acting Governor Iman Rafii, security and judicial officials, and senior military commanders.
In a press conference following the meeting, Al-Hajjar emphasized that his visit to Tripoli aimed to “personally follow up on the city’s needs, ensure stability, and strengthen citizens’ trust in the state.” He highlighted the importance of close coordination among security agencies to address ongoing challenges such as thefts and local disturbances.
Al-Hajjar affirmed that “security is a right for citizens and a duty for the state,” pledging continued field follow-ups on all security and service issues. On the elections, he reiterated the government’s commitment to holding parliamentary elections on schedule in May 2026 “with full transparency and in line with all legal deadlines.”
The minister also addressed the issue of prisoners, noting coordination with the Prime Minister, the Justice and Defense Ministries, and Syrian authorities to resolve pending cases. “We will not neglect Lebanese inmates,” he added, stressing ongoing efforts to accelerate trials and ease overcrowding.
Al-Hajjar concluded by expressing optimism about Tripoli’s improving situation, citing “visible progress resulting from the joint efforts of state institutions, the judiciary, and security forces.”
