The Palestinian group says the latest deaths in Israeli prisons amount to “further evidence of the systematic crimes” committed by Israel.
“It underscores the brutality of the prison administration’s torture, medical neglect, and punitive policies, all part of a deliberate and official policy of killing carried out with impunity, far removed from any international oversight or accountability,” Hamas said in a statement.
As we reported earlier, Palestinian prisoner rights groups reported that three Palestinian men from Gaza – Taysir Saeed al-Abd Sababa,60; Khamis Shukri Mar’i Ashour, 44, and Khalil Ahmad Khalil Haniyeh, 35 – died in Israeli detention.
Israel has launched a widescale arrests campaign in the shadow of its war on Gaza, often holding detainees without charge or trial for indefinite periods of time. Rights groups have accused the country of widespread torture and other ill-treatment.
Hamas said the Israeli authorities must “immediately disclose the fate of the forcibly disappeared prisoners, release the bodies of the martyrs it is holding, and ensure that the perpetrators of these heinous crimes are held accountable”.
