Patriarch Rahi: Peace Is Possible
Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Rahi presided over Sunday Mass marking the occasion of the "Prisoner’s Jubilee" at the Patriarchal Seat in Bkerke.

In the wake of Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Lebanon and his recent remarks from Rome, Patriarch Rahi reaffirmed the spiritual and moral depth of the Pope’s message, stating: “Peace is possible.”

Rahi stressed that the Pope’s words were not fleeting or political, but deeply rooted in Gospel truth, reminding the faithful that wars cannot build the future, that despair is not the destiny of nations, and that Lebanon, though wounded, has the capacity to rise if it returns to its mission.

“Peace does not come from power, but from mercy,” Rahi said. “Mercy reopens the door to reconciliation, and reconciliation builds the future.”

In his Sunday homily, he called on the Lebanese to pray for a heart like Saint Joseph’s, one that is brave, discerning, and obedient. “Let us pray for Lebanon: that fear may become hope, division may turn into reconciliation, and wounds may give birth to a new beginning.”
