Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rasamny conducted an inspection tour at Rafic Hariri International Airport–Beirut, to review ongoing works in the departure hall and mark the completion of a specific phase of the rehabilitation and modernization project.
The ministry clarified that the ribbon-cutting accompanying the tour reflects the completion of this phase only and does not constitute the official inauguration of the entire departure hall, as works are still under way in other sections. A comprehensive official opening will be held once all project phases are completed.
Rasamny was accompanied by senior aviation officials, airport management, Middle East Airlines chairman, security commanders, and heads of administrative units.
Following the tour, Rasamny said airport security now “matches, and even surpasses, that of many airports worldwide,” noting that works were completed swiftly to expand inspection areas ahead of the holiday season. He revealed an integrated expansion plan to increase capacity by around two million additional passengers, with phased openings over the coming year.
The minister stressed the airport’s role as a key driver of economic growth, job creation, and investment, highlighting upcoming technological upgrades and continued coordination with the Ministries of Finance and Interior.
Rasamny also confirmed that the Fast Track project will be ready by March and pointed to new airport projects enabled by the recently enacted public–private partnership law.
