The Tianshan Shengli Tunnel in China has opened to traffic and is considered the longest highway tunnel in the world.
The tunnel, which stretches 22.13 km through the Tianshan Mountains in the central part of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in northwestern China, reduces the mountain crossing time, which used to take several hours, to about 20 minutes.
As a vital artery connecting city clusters in northern and southern Xinjiang, the G0711 Urumqi Yuli Expressway, including the tunnel, became operational on the same day.
