Watch: President Aoun Voices Full Support for the Army, Appeals to International Community
President Joseph Aoun expressed full support for the Lebanese Army’s statement on its weapons withdrawal plan, reaffirming the military’s role in extending state authority, restoring sovereignty, and maintaining security, particularly in southern Lebanon.

In a statement issued by the Presidency, Aoun said the deployment of the Lebanese Army south of the Litani River is part of a national decision aimed at reinforcing the state’s exclusive control over weapons, ensuring that decisions of war and peace rest solely with constitutional institutions, and preventing Lebanese territory from being used for hostile acts.

The president stressed that lasting stability depends on addressing unresolved issues, including Israel’s continued occupation of parts of Lebanese territory, the establishment of buffer zones, and ongoing violations of Lebanese sovereignty on land, sea, and air. He said these actions undermine the ceasefire agreement and threaten civilian safety.

Aoun added that a full Israeli withdrawal, respect for the ceasefire, and the return of prisoners are essential to enabling the state to exercise its authority, ensure the safe return of displaced civilians, and launch an organized reconstruction process in southern Lebanon. He said remaining field issues should be handled through existing frameworks, including the ceasefire monitoring mechanism.

Reaffirming Lebanon’s commitment to the ceasefire, Aoun called on the international community, particularly friendly and allied countries, to support its implementation by preventing the transfer of weapons to any party other than the Lebanese Army and by accelerating military support to strengthen the Army’s capabilities.

He concluded by expressing full confidence in the Lebanese armed forces and praising the resilience of southern residents, reaffirming the state’s commitment to protecting Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, and stability.
