Watch: Trump Launches "Peace Council"
US President Donald Trump signed the founding documents of the "Peace Council" charter during an official ceremony held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Trump, who will serve as the council’s chairman, invited dozens of world leaders to join, stating that the council will address global challenges beyond the fragile ceasefire in Gaza. He emphasized that the council is not intended to replace the United Nations.

Trump opened his speech by calling the day “very exciting,” adding, “We have peace in the Middle East. Nobody thought that was possible.” He highlighted that eight wars have ended and referenced a new conflict resolution, alluding to the ceasefire in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. He also said that the world today is “safer, wealthier, and more peaceful than it was a year ago.”

The council, chaired by Trump, was attended by dozens of leaders from 19 countries, including Argentina, Bahrain, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Morocco, the UAE, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia.

Trump said, “We now have one of the most important meetings for what is known as the Peace Council,” adding that the council will work in coordination with the United Nations. “There is enormous potential with the UN, and I believe that integrating the Peace Council with the people present here, alongside the UN, could be something very unique for the world,” he added.

He also addressed Hamas, saying: “If Hamas does not do what it said it would, they were born with weapons in their hands, but they must give up their arms. If they do not, it will be their complete end.”

Trump noted that in November, the United Nations adopted a resolution endorsing the council’s role in overseeing a transitional Palestinian government and an international peacekeeping force.
