President of the Republic Joseph Aoun continued his meetings, receiving in the afternoon at Baabda Palace a delegation from the Lebanese Poultry Syndicate, headed by William Boutros, who briefed him on the current situation of the poultry sector amid prevailing economic conditions.
Boutros highlighted the sector’s social and economic importance, noting that it includes around 2,000 farms and 60 factories across Lebanon, with an annual production capacity exceeding 120 million birds, and provides direct and indirect employment for more than 36,000 families. He explained that a national poultry strategy was launched last year in partnership with the Ministries of Agriculture, Economy, and Industry, aiming to develop the sector and related industries, create around 53,000 new jobs, and increase its contribution to the national economy by nearly USD 1.5 billion. He asked the President to support the implementation of the strategy, which requires no public spending, through accelerating regulatory decisions by the relevant authorities.
President Aoun praised the sector’s achievements and stressed the importance of maintaining high-quality, safe production to reinforce confidence in Lebanese products. He said the strategy would receive due attention from the concerned ministries and reaffirmed efforts, together with the government, to open additional Arab and international markets for Lebanese exports, noting the steadily improving reputation of Lebanese production abroad.
