Salam chairs meeting over Tripoli city conditions
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam held a meeting at the Grand Serail Palace, devoted  to discussing the current conditions in the northern city of Tripoli.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Culture Ghassan Salameh, MPs Ashraf Rifi, Ihab Matar, Karim Kabbara, Taha Naji, Elie Khoury, Jamil Abboud, and Haidar Nasser, in addition to the head of Tripoli Municipality Dr. Abdul Hamid Karima, the Head of the Engineers Syndicate in Tripoli, Engineer Shawqi Fatfat, and the Head of the Higher Relief Commission, Brigadier General Bassam Nabulsi

On emerging, MP Ashraf Rifi said that they raised during the meeting all the affairs and concerns of the city of Tripoli, adding that the meeting addressed the current conditions prevailing in the city.

Rifi added: "I had submitted a report, and it was agreed in principle to form a crisis cell. This cell existed previously, but today it has acquired a legal status enabling it to begin the necessary preparations immediately and urgently. There is also a clear vision for a larger project, under which we will work to build between 700 and 1,000 housing units. There are around 700 housing units at risk of collapse after a few years, which could lead to structural failures and the loss of many precious lives, as has happened in the past. We do not want any further victims."

Rifi added, "We reassure all citizens, and all Lebanese people, that immediate work will begin and that we are not entirely behind schedule. A working team is in place, and the crisis cell will be fully formed starting tomorrow.  His Excellency the Prime Minister stressed that no financial ceiling would be set, affirming that everything required for structural reinforcement and sheltering works will be provided, regardless of cost, and that all essential needs will be met without hesitation or delay."

On the other hand, Premier Salam received Maronite Archbishop of Beirut, Bishop Paul Abdel Sater, accompanied by Monsignor Ignatius Al-Asmar, who handed him an invitation to attend the Mass for the Feast of Saint Maroun, which will be held at the Maronite Cathedral of Saint George on February 9.
