An informed diplomatic source told EastNews details of an evacuation operation involving Iranian nationals from Lebanon via a Russian aircraft.
According to the source, a Russian plane departed Beirut International Airport around midnight on Saturday, carrying 117 Iranian diplomats and citizens, in addition to three coffins containing the bodies and remains of five Iranian diplomats. The operation was carried out at Tehran’s request, with Moscow agreeing to provide diplomatic assistance.
Sources indicated that Iranian President requested help from his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to evacuate a number of Iranians from Lebanon, which Moscow accepted by organizing a special flight to transport the evacuees.
The sources added that the aircraft took off at 12:00 am on Saturday, carrying 117 Iranians along with three coffins containing the remains of five people killed in the incident.
The evacuation did not include the Iranian ambassador in Beirut or any other official from the embassy, whether from the civilian or military diplomatic staff.
