National Defense Minister Michel Menassa received at his Yarzeh office, the UK Defence Senior Advisor to the Middle East and North Africa (DSAME) Vice Admiral Edward Ahlgren, in the presence of British Ambassador to Lebanon Hamish Cowell and an accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, the repercussions of the recent war on Lebanon and its security, economic and social implications were discussed, in addition to developments in the south and the challenges facing the country at this stage.
There was emphasis on the importance of strengthening cooperation between Lebanon and the United Kingdom, particularly in the military field, along with the continuation of British support for the Lebanese army to enable it to carry out its role in maintaining stability and navigating this critical phase. Admiral Algren stressed his country's commitment to continuing its support for Lebanon and helping it overcome the repercussions of this war. For his part, Ambassador Cowell affirmed his country's support for the initiatives proposed to stop the war in Lebanon and the region.
The Minister of National Defense thanked Britain for its ongoing support, emphasizing "the importance of the international community playing an effective role in assisting the Lebanese state." The Minister also requested a British contribution in exerting pressure on Israel to halt its attacks on Lebanon, in a way that helps consolidate stability and protect national sovereignty.
Minister Menassa also received MP Melhem Riachy, with whom he discussed the country’s general situation, especially in light of the repercussions of the daily Israeli attacks on Lebanon and their impact on various sectors.
