Maronite League Secretary-General, Paul Youssef Kanaan, praised President Joseph Aoun's statement from Bkerke, highlighting its clear emphasis on the authority of the state and its responsibility to protect all citizens and ensure stability across Lebanon.
Kanaan said he aligns with the president’s call to preserve civil peace, support state efforts to halt bloodshed, economic collapse, and destruction, urging the international community to back the Lebanese Army as a guarantor of sovereignty and stability alongside official institutions in the country.
He also commended the sermon of Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Rahi, underlining its consistent national principles, focus on the state’s role in safeguarding all citizens, and its emphasis on Lebanon’s unity and sovereignty.
Kanaan stressed that the state alone remains the guarantor for all Lebanese, the protector of their rights, and the reference that ensures security and stability and preserves diversity, partnership and coexistence in the country.
He also hailed solidarity efforts supporting residents in border areas, describing such unity as essential for their resilience and steadfastness.
Finally, Kanaan affirmed that the Maronite League will continue cooperating with institutions and associations, under the patronage of Bkerke and in coordination with the Papal Embassy, to support the resilience of residents in Christian villages and safeguard their presence.
