On the occasion of Labor Day, Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, issued the following statement: "On International Workers' Day, I express my full solidarity and comapssion with the workers of Lebanon, employers, members of the free professions, farmers, paramedics, medical and nursing personnel, emergency responders, and journalists in the Bekaa and southern suburbs- especially those who remained steadfast in the south and those who were displaced from their homes unjustly as a result of Israeli aggression, which has turned—and continues to turn— through its internationally prohibited weapons and munitions—their sources of livelihood, theri fields, homes, and factories into scorched earth, in an unprecedented act that humanity has never witnessed before."
Speaker Berri added: "A salute of pride, appreciation and respect to the martyred workers and to all the martyrs who, with their blood, have drawn a red line in the face of the yellow occupation line, confirming that the land is our dignity, our honor, and our right- one that stands above all else, no matter the sacrifices."
Berri continued: "This year's May 1st, with all the pain and suffering it carries, must be an open national call to the state with all its authorities, and to the international community and its human rights and judicial organizations, to act to compel Israel to immediately halt its aggression before anything else, and to expedite the formation of an international fact-finding committee to investigate the crimes that Israeli occupation forces continue to carry out against workers and their workplaces, particularly farmers in the southern border areas and south of the Litani River."
Berri concluded by saying: "Glory to the workers, mercy to the martyrs of the workers and all the martyrs, while prayers for the wounded for a speedy recovery."
