Russia launched a large-scale attack on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and its surrounding areas using missiles and drones, killing four people and injuring dozens more.

Explosions echoed across Kyiv after the Ukrainian Air Force warned via its Telegram channel that Russia might launch an “Oreshnik” ballistic missile.

A spokesperson for the Ukrainian Air Force stated that Russia struck the Kyiv region with an Oreshnik medium-range hypersonic ballistic missile.

In a statement, the Ukrainian Air Force said Russia launched 600 drones and 90 missiles during the attack, adding that one of the missiles was a medium-range ballistic missile, without specifying its type.

Kyiv’s mayor said that two people were killed and 56 others injured in the attacks on the city, with 13 of the wounded transferred to hospitals. Some damage was also recorded in the city’s historic Independence Square.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry, quoted by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, said: “Our strikes on Ukraine targeted military command sites, air bases, and facilities belonging to the military-industrial complex.”
