Rubio has defended US military operations in Iran as “highly successful”.

“Operation Epic Fury – some of you didn’t like it, some of you did – was highly successful in achieving its military objectives, which was dramatically reducing the defence-industrial base of Iran,” he said.

“Today, there is no Iranian navy. There is no such thing. It lies at the bottom of the ocean.”
